Contraptions turns things on its head in that where most other events seek to simplify a complex problem, Contraptions require you to enthrall the judges and the audience with your ability to convolute the most simplest of actions with an infinite array of steps! All you need is planning, innovation, efficiency in steps and use of materials to stay in the reckoning. What is needed is a crazy mind capable of dreaming up the most complex of answers to the simplest of tasks
Then gear up for Contraptions wherein you will be judged on your innovation, creativity, compactness and of course craziness!
EVENT FORMAT:
Contraptions will be conducted in two stages.
The first stage comprises of Abstract submission.
Teams selected on the basis of abstracts will be invited for the final round
ARENA SPECIFICATIONS: Individual contraptions will be provided with 8feet * 8 feet area for display.
Rules:
-
The minimum number of steps needed to achieve your goal must be 10(ten) (maximum up to 20)
- A team can have maximum of 5 participants.
- Each Team will be given 2(two) trials to show their working arrangement. Final points will be the average of both the attempts. The 2nd trial will be optional.
- A setup time of 30 minutes will be given before each trial. In addition to this, a setup time of 90 minutes will be given to every team before their first attempt.
- The working time of the contraption should not be more than 4 minutes. Points will be deducted on exceeding the time limit.
- Once initiated, one manual intervention is allowed for every 6 steps.
- All teams should bring 2 copies of properly printed write-ups of their contraption clearly mentioning the number of steps, description of each step and energy conversion involved.
- No alteration in contraption of any kind is allowed at any point of time.
- The organizers will provide the following at the venue:
- Extension cords
- 230 V AC supply
- Judge's decision shall be final and binding to all.
- Target is left to your innovative idea.
- Repetitive steps are considered as a single step.
- A participant should not be in more than one team.
ABSTRACT DETAILS: Abstract should contain the following:
- Total no. of steps.
- No of energy conversions.
- Support your write up with appropriate images/diagrams of your contraption. Note that even photos of incomplete contraption may be added in the abstract.

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA:
- No of steps in the contraption
- No of energy conversions
- Types of energy conversions
- Originality of the ideas and innovativeness
- Robustness of the contraption
- No of trials and forced human interventions used (will lead to deduction of points).
- Complexity of the overall contraption.

Date of intimation of selected teams: 28th dec, 2010.
REGISTRATION FEE: Rs 200 per participant.
